Vicarious Vacation Alert! Oaxaca Edition
Dear peeps,
As I prepare to indulge in mole-tastic moments and taco triumphs in Oaxaca, I thought I’d share the lineup of restaurants I’ll be bravely conquering—all in the name of culinary research (someone has to do it!). Consider this your official permission to live vicariously through me, bite by imaginary bite.
From crispy tlayudas at Criollo to rooftop mezcal atLos Danzantes, and the Royal Mayan massage to help me recover from all that chewing—this trip is gourmet-powered from start to finish.
Here’s the full list of culinary gems (with websites!) so you can track my journey and plot your revenge with restaurant recommendations when you take your own vacation.
Oh—and did I mention the Guelaguetza Festival will kick off just as I arrive? I mean, what an honor to have a city start a celebration in my name (or at leastpretend it’s for me)! 🌺💃
This iconic cultural festival is a burst of traditional dances, music, costumes, and regional pride. Between that and the incredible meals I plan to devour, Oaxaca is proving to be the ultimate gourmet playground.
🌿 Bonus Chapter of the Oaxaca Chronicles 🌿
While my tastebuds will be busy exploring the culinary map of Oaxaca, my soul will be on its own adventure! As part of this journey, I’ll be learning alongside a medicine woman and a shaman, diving deep into ancestral healing practices, energy work, and wisdom that predates Wi-Fi.
To truly immerse myself in nature’s teachings, I’ll be living in a tree house—yes, like a real-life Ewok, minus the fur and with slightly better snack options. Don’t worry, I’ve already made peace with the possibility of jungle eyebrows and forest hair... it’s all part of the transformational package.
This experience is both a privilege and a reset—because learning never stops, and sometimes the best insight comes from ancient wisdom and fresh air (with a side of mole negro).
Stay tuned for stories involving herbs, healing circles, and possibly me trying to convince a parrot and a monkey I’m their spiritual match. 🌈🦜
Beyond the world-class dishes and healing traditions, Oaxaca is truly a magical corner of the world. Nestled between mountains and mezcal dreams, this state is bursting with creative energy, ancestral wisdom, and vibrant soul.
I’ll be spending part of my journey in the Sierra Norte mountains above the clouds, where the air hums with mystery and the land feels alive. The energy there is unlike anything I’ve experienced—it’s grounding, inspiring, and oddly convincing me that I may never want to leave.
Between gourmet meals, treehouse reflections, and spiritual lessons with the medicine woman and shaman, this adventure is shaping up to be a whole-body reset: mind, belly, and spirit included.
If you ever feel pulled toward the mezcal moonlight and tortilla-scented breezes... know this: Oaxaca is calling, and I fully support answering that call 💫🌽
And if my culinary choices stir something in your soul, just know—you’re all officially invited to visit when we move there indefinitely 😉 (Yes, this foodie life may be permanent!)
Bon appétit… remotely.
