The Destination Was Never Mexico
One year ago, I boarded a plane to Oaxaca without realizing how profoundly that journey would change my life.
At the time, I was stressed, demotivated, and working in a job that paid the bills—but it was never my calling. When I returned home, I got sick and spent my last week of vacation recovering. Yet beneath the exhaustion, one thing had become crystal clear:
I needed an exit plan.
Massage therapy became that plan.
Eight months later, just before graduating, an unexpected opportunity allowed me to walk away from that chapter forever.
Leaving my job didn’t heal me. It simply gave me the space to become the woman I was meant to be.
Over the past year, I’ve built a massage studio, rediscovered my love of writing and photography, filled my life with meaningful experiences, and, most importantly, learned to live according to my own values instead of urgency.
That may be the greatest gift of all.
I no longer feel the constant pressure to have everything figured out. I take time to reflect. I choose intentionally. I protect my peace and the people I love. I have learned that courage isn’t the absence of fear—it’s choosing yourself despite it.
In just a few days, I’ll board another plane to Mexico.
This time, I’m not searching for an escape or looking for answers.
I’m simply excited for whatever awaits: the conversations, the food, the jungle mornings, the photographs, the stories, the unexpected moments that remind me how extraordinary an ordinary day can be.
I’ve learned that we each have our own path, and no two journeys are the same. But if there’s one thing this past year has taught me, it’s this:
The courage it takes to leave a life that no longer fits is often far smaller than the happiness waiting on the other side.
The path matters just as much as the destination—perhaps even more.
Because, in the end, the destination was never Mexico.
The destination was always within me. ❤️
